It begins for me, tomorrow. I go into the hospital and begin my pre-surgery preparation. I will be in the hospital for 5 days, though I only need to stay overnight for 2 days. What is ViaCyte? ViaCyte is a company out of San Diego. Their business is stem cell research technology. This particular trial

Spartan Beast – Montana 2018

By stephanie 8 May, 2018

We left Vancouver around 3:30pm Thursday to make our way to Montana. We drove to Spokane and slept in a cheap hotel, then left Friday morning for Kalispell, Montana. The drive from Spokane to Kalispell was gorgeous! We went through Lolo National Forest between Idaho and Montana to get there. The event itself was in

Spartan Super & Sprint Weekend Seattle – April 2018

By stephanie 28 Apr, 2018

I knew going in to this weekend that it would be muddy. Really really muddy. It was really muddy last year, and this was my 4th time at this venue. Somehow, when I’m out there, I feel like I made the best and worst decision. “Why did I choose to come here again, in the

OCR World Championships 2017

By stephanie 17 Oct, 2017

What are the Obstacle Course Racing World Championships (OCRWC)? They are an independent organization who hold a world class series of obstacle course races, for which one needs to qualify. Independent as in, they are not affiliated with any particular obstacle course racing organization, such as the Spartan Race, Tough Mudder, Warrior Dash, etc. Qualify

How to complete a Spartan Race Trifecta – by accident

By stephanie 30 Sep, 2017

After completing my first accidental Spartan Race Super, next on my list was to deliberately race a Spartan Race Super. My race of choice: Spartan Super in Red Deer, Alberta. The first race in my life in which I had to board a plane (but not my last)! I chose this race because I had

Spartan Sprint & Super Weekend in Vancouver – June 2017

By stephanie 13 Jul, 2017

Once upon a time in June, I declared that my club mates from Vancity OCR were crazy if they did BOTH races back-to-back on a weekend. And yet, how quickly I became one of these crazy people! It wasn’t something I had planned to do, it just sort of happened… So here I was, about

DIY Race Medal & Bib Rack

By stephanie 30 Jun, 2017

One of the fun souvenirs that one receives upon completing a race is getting a medal, or being given a race bib. A lot of the obstacle course races give out medals and headbands, and a lot of the road and trail running races give out race bibs. Some road/trail races do give out medals

Spartan Super & Sprint Weekend in Seattle – April 2017

By stephanie 26 Jun, 2017

Another double header weekend was happening in Seattle, and unlike the Beast & Super weekend in Seattle from 2016 that I was at, I did not volunteer on Saturday, the day before my race. I went down to visit a friend in Seattle and raced on Sunday. As much as I love volunteering, what I

2017 Race Schedule

By stephanie 6 Jan, 2017

I have most of my races already chosen and signed up for, because I wanted to keep with my 1 race per month frequency (which I started in August 2016 by accident). I wanted to select my races well in advance because a) I love being hyper-organized and b) I needed to know that races

2016 Year in Review

By stephanie 23 Dec, 2016

A lot of my loved ones, workmates, people I meet along the way, have asked me “How did you get into obstacle course racing?” or subsequently “How can I get into obstacle course racing?” to which, the answers are quite similar. I first learned about obstacle course racing about 5 years ago. The first one

#XcSkiing in the winter, #TrailRunning in the summer. #LiftHeavy year round. #Exercise professional in the #okanagan. #Political advocate. #t1d

Stephanie Hendy 💖💛💙
Did some #SpeedTraining at the track this morning! Did some #SpeedTraining at the track this morning! It was hard, not having done it in a few weeks, and first time doing it since spraining my ankle. But I was happy to see my watch telling me that my lactate threshold hadn't changed, since #running less due to the recent injury. I'm ready for a more technical #TrailRun on Saturday!

While there's a filter on the photos, no joke, that was the sky at 9am this morning.
The screenshot of the air quality is from moments ago. The air quality got much worse as the day went on.

Nothing to see here, just smoke from fires before May long weekend. It was only two months ago that I was still scraping ice off my car windshield in the morning. It's almost like someone tried to warn us this would happen...

I'm looking forward to the next 2 days of workouts being indoors!!

#DontGoOutside #AirAlert #TrainSmart #ClimateChange
Saturday morning was my first #TrailRun since spra Saturday morning was my first #TrailRun since spraining my ankle 2 weeks prior. My friend and I #ran at #MiddletonMountain which was gorgeous! Somehow whenever I go there, I always forget that it's ALL hills. In my brain, there's one hill. I don't know why!

The run felt good, probably because we weren't going at speed, but it's always nice to catch up with my friend and feel the awe move through me!!

I had been craving a treat all week and was really happy to sit in a park eating my concoction in the peak of the sun!

Sunday came along which meant it was #MealPrep day. I made a potato Kielbasa stew using @the_tofurky_company sausages. I also made some more egg white bites. I finally feel like I found the right proportions of ingredients for those bites to be amazing!

Sunday was also BBQ with my friends day, and I ate the biggest steak I could find! (I was also craving that all week!) It was glorious!

Back to another week of heavy lifting! I plan to get back to #SpeedTraining at the track on Wednesday. I think my ankle is ready!

I went for a #run yesterday. First run in a week I went for a #run yesterday.
First run in a week and a half since spraining my left ankle.
I deliberately chose a #trail that was flat and not technical, to test my body weight plus gravity, first. Based on how great this run felt, I think I am ready to try a slightly longer and more technical trail on Saturday morning. I will need to not land on any giant rocks sideways as it still feels a little off moving into the direction of inversion.

I love the #GreyCanalTrail so much! I did the Bella Vista section.

I don't know if it was my feedback to the #RDNO or if it was that #VernonBC was recently named the #TrailCapitalOfBC but my prayers were answered: THERE ARE BATHROOMS AT THE GREY CANAL TRAIL!! Not many people would hear angels singing the way I did when I saw that portopottie (and hope that it becomes a nice wooden latrine at some point) but I spotted it there, and at the Grey Canal BX trail head at Blackcomb way.

This is what I meant when I said we need to make the @cityofvernon more #accesible !! More bathrooms, everywhere!!
