No Added Sugar January

By stephanie 5 Apr, 2018

A lot of people gave themselves the task of “Sober January”. For me, it was all about sugar. I had consumed far too much in December but more importantly, I recognized that my habit needed to be broken, so I needed to be totalitarian about it. What habit needed to be broken? Well, I would

Tourtiere – Low-FODMAP and Gluten free

By stephanie 7 Jan, 2018

You might be thinking “How could a savoury meat pie be healthy?” Well, I’m here to tell you that you can mitigate the damage rather nicely, and not sacrifice flavour. My mother, who was raised French-Canadian really enjoyed it and felt it was authentic, but it’s also YUMMY, low-FODMAP, and gluten free! Technically, wheat is on the

So you decided to go on a diet…

By stephanie 2 Feb, 2017

Diets don’t work. I realize that being overweight or obese sucks. I truly truly get it. I’ve lived it.  Please remember that all popular diets are exactly that. A diet’s safety is not related to its effectiveness. If you take a shortcut, expect it to come back to you later in life. Unless, that shortcut

Went out for a nice #walk with a friend I hadn't seen in a while.
Where we caught up on our #fitness #goals, life, our current projects, our future missions, and our mutual desire to save humanity.
It's not easy #BeingGreen but I'm proud to be part of a movement that I'm ethically aligned with.

Running in the BC provincial election was one of the best choices I made in 2020, and even if I took a little bit of a political break, I'm pleased with how many more driven people that the process connected me with.

I'm still reconnecting to myself - #exercise consistency is my 1️⃣ priority right now. And while I told my friend I wanted to #cycle up another #NorthShore #mountain this year, she tried to convince me to #TrailRun up to #BlackTusk and back in a day! 🤣 Yeah...someday, but not likely in 2021.
Need to acquire a sweet carbon gravel #bike, first! Then join a #cycling club to literally, get my ass into gear!! ⚙️🚴‍♀️🚵‍♀️

Went back #XCskiing yesterday, after a sweet lesso Went back #XCskiing yesterday, after a sweet lesson on how to wax my #skis from @coastoutdoors. Freshly waxed, just in time for some fresh #snow / sticky conditions.

I actually managed to capture the snow falling this time! ❄️

That corner there, is a sharp corner around the #tree at the end of #Sitzmark. Where I bailed last time. 🤣
I didn't bail this time and actually, I managed to transition from my snow plow to a step turn! I was so surprised that I had to stop and process my excitement. Then I took the picture! 😁

Still working on offset poling on my other side and my one-skate techniques.

I learned that Saturday night is the least busy day on the mountain! I should go there more often, then. 👍🏼

I wanted to #ski longer but I was feeling tired of lifting my legs. My dietitian can't figure out why my #BloodSugars get so bonkers high. I told her that my #CGM is delayed. What I actually meant to say, is that it's too cold for it to read reliably, at all. I see the receiver hover around 5 mmol/L so I sip my sugar drink to avoid a low, and then get blindsided by a reading that's way off. This #DiabetesTech is starting to really irritate me... I'm already taping a hand warmer to my #Omnipod to avoid alarms from a fake cannula-occlusion. I'm happy that I found a solution for that problem, after pods failing on me for 2 years during outdoor activity. One would think for the insane cost of these devices that they would be a little more robust. How are other #T1D Canadians dealing with this⁉️

Also, a picture of my dinner because I was stoked to teach myself how to make tofu like in Chinese restaurants, and that magical Oyster sauce that goes on steamed Gai Lan. The rice, is a magical rice I bought local from @artisansake on Granville Island. Why is it magical? It was grown in Abbotsford, BC. It's such a small yield that they only offer one bag a year, and I made sure I got on their list. What does it taste like, you ask? Like the Pacific Rainforest. 🌲🏔️ A little green and metallic and earthy.

Finally, my first day back at the #gym since my li Finally, my first day back at the #gym since my little #MountainBiking accident in early November, was yesterday. It was a *little* accident, a minor tear of my biceps brachii tendon, but still meant I couldn't #LiftHeavy for a while, as if that little tear became a big tear or rupture, then it would have been a BIG injury.

I tested out doing #deadlifts with just the bar, first. That felt okay. I tested it out then with 135 lbs, shown here. Still felt good, but I wanted to wait to see how I felt today. Today, I feel fine! I am still going to increase the weight rather gingerly, until I feel my shoulder is closer to normal. I have a feeling lifting heavier is going to help me with the last of my recovery, as some muscles have been working too much to stabilize the shoulder joint. Me and my lacrosse ball have been painful friends, to help loosen the tight bits! 🙃

I avoided doing bicep curls completely, as though I like doing them, they aren't super necessary. I wanted to do the deadlifts and more posterior chain stabilizing movements.

I'm so excited to get back to this!! My #BloodSugars have been awful since not #lifting.

I was also pleased to see almost everyone wearing masks. Only two people I saw without masks. A huge improvement from 2 months ago, when only 10% of people wore masks.
I really wish my gym had one hour booking slots, or equipment sign up sheets. Waits for equipment during peak times are still long, despite the gym itself not being super busy.
