Tourtiere – Low-FODMAP and Gluten free

By stephanie 7 Jan, 2018

You might be thinking “How could a savoury meat pie be healthy?” Well, I’m here to tell you that you can mitigate the damage rather nicely, and not sacrifice flavour. My mother, who was raised French-Canadian really enjoyed it and felt it was authentic, but it’s also YUMMY, low-FODMAP, and gluten free! Technically, wheat is on the

By stephanie 28 Dec, 2017

If you love making super yummy and easy dinner, try this one out. I timed it and it took me a grand total of 30 minutes to make. Time quoted included making wild salmon as the protein to accompany it and broccoli on the side. (recipe adapted from this page here) Yield 2 servings (serving

What an action packed weekend! Saturday, I spent What an action packed weekend!
Saturday, I spent 6 hours online in continuing education courses to maintain my #kinesiologist designation with the #BCAK.
Then, I drove a boat for the first time!! It was way easier than driving a car, and my friend's boat was super smooth. Wood Lake was pretty nice. Now I understand why people do this. Though I still quite like the human powered watercraft of my #sup and canoes, kayaks, etc.

Today (Sunday), I set out to #TrailRun 10K at #KalPark. I couldn't decide if I wanted to do the Coming Around the Mountain loop, or 2 laps of the @bush_babe_ reverse Enduro loop. Though I hate seeing the same scenery twice, I did the latter, because I was #running alone and I knew exactly where I was going. It was a perfect day: my body, my blood sugars, the weather, my mood, everything was on point. So imagine my disappointment when I went to put on my running shoes and I forgot my socks! I wasn't interested in driving all the way back home, but the price I paid was blisters on the underside of my arches. Ouch! Still have to decide if I want to do the Slay the Dragon race I did last year... I didn't want to do it knowing I was going to be slower, but it might have more to do with what my life is like, as I am going through many big life transitions in June (all very good and of my choosing!). I can loosely #train for it and see how things emerge.

This afternoon, my partner and I attended the @alzheimercanada walk in #PolsonPark. It was such a sweet event. The Kalamalka Clowns led us through our warm up, and the walk was a little 400m lap around the park. It was nice to see my friend who helped organize it for #VernonBC, and run into my MLA, and two City Councillors. Seniors' #health has a lot to gain overall, but I'm happy to be in a city that is looking at how to make it more seniors' friendly.

Did some #SpeedTraining at the track this morning! Did some #SpeedTraining at the track this morning! It was hard, not having done it in a few weeks, and first time doing it since spraining my ankle. But I was happy to see my watch telling me that my lactate threshold hadn't changed, since #running less due to the recent injury. I'm ready for a more technical #TrailRun on Saturday!

While there's a filter on the photos, no joke, that was the sky at 9am this morning.
The screenshot of the air quality is from moments ago. The air quality got much worse as the day went on.

Nothing to see here, just smoke from fires before May long weekend. It was only two months ago that I was still scraping ice off my car windshield in the morning. It's almost like someone tried to warn us this would happen...

I'm looking forward to the next 2 days of workouts being indoors!!

Saturday morning was my first #TrailRun since spra Saturday morning was my first #TrailRun since spraining my ankle 2 weeks prior. My friend and I #ran at #MiddletonMountain which was gorgeous! Somehow whenever I go there, I always forget that it's ALL hills. In my brain, there's one hill. I don't know why!

The run felt good, probably because we weren't going at speed, but it's always nice to catch up with my friend and feel the awe move through me!!

I had been craving a treat all week and was really happy to sit in a park eating my concoction in the peak of the sun!

Sunday came along which meant it was #MealPrep day. I made a potato Kielbasa stew using @the_tofurky_company sausages. I also made some more egg white bites. I finally feel like I found the right proportions of ingredients for those bites to be amazing!

Sunday was also BBQ with my friends day, and I ate the biggest steak I could find! (I was also craving that all week!) It was glorious!

Back to another week of heavy lifting! I plan to get back to #SpeedTraining at the track on Wednesday. I think my ankle is ready!
